Church of GodWe're often asked to which church we belong, and what do we respond? "Such and Such COG" is the answer of which we're fond. Why not leave out "Such and Such" and just say "Church of God"? In the end, God's who we answer to, not John nor Dick nor Rod. The Church of God goes far beyond the divisions that we make. How many more splinter groups can this one body take? The fact that we're one body does not just to one break-off group apply. So how can the body function if we cut off an arm or a leg or an eye? We must realize there's still much to learn and no one knows it all. "Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall." At our own pace we each grow and learn to overcome the devil. So why separate from our brother who's merely at a different level? I may understand a truth that you do not yet know. And you may see a matter clearly, where my knowledge still must grow. Allowing our different levels to divide us is a shame. We may disagree on this or that, but the foundation's still the same. Divide and conquer is a classic strategy of war. Satan is using this age-old method to cut us to the core. We mustn't divide ourselves from the brethren that we know. If we do, how will we ever help each other grow? In spite of the chaos, we mustn’t conclude that there's nothing we can do. With help from above, it's never too late for our brotherly love to renew. Keep open the lines of communication from one group to another. Even if someone attends a different group, he is still our brother. Open the door regardless of human organization. Pick up the phone; write a letter; extend an invitation. |
